Nancy Ukai Russell

Nancy Ukai Russell is currently doing research on visual representations of people of color in colonial-era postcards and other media. She was born and raised in Berkeley, California. After receiving a BA from University of California, Santa Cruz, she went to Japan on a Fulbright Fellowship and lived there for 14 years, working as a journalist for the Asahi , the Tokyo bureau of Newsweek and other publications. She received an MA in educational theory from Rutgers and in media anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. Twelve of her relatives were incarcerated at Tanforan and Topaz.
