The <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/wiki/Loyalty_questionnaire\" title=\"Loyalty questionnaire\">loyalty questionnaire</a> splits the family, with one son joining the <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/wiki/442nd_Regimental_Combat_Team\" title=\"442nd Regimental Combat Team\">442nd Regimental Combat Team</a> and another ending up a <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/wiki/Renunciation_of_citizenship\" title=\"Renunciation of citizenship\">renunciant</a>. The play was had its first reading in 1980 and was produced by the Peoples Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1981 and the Pan Asian Repertory Theatre in New York in March of 1982 as part a series of three plays about the Japanese American incarceration.<sup class=\"reference\" id=\"cite_ref-ftnt_ref1_1-0\"><a class=\"\" href=\"#cite_note-ftnt_ref1-1\">[1]</a></sup>\n</p><p>Playwright Alfaro, a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, who has been based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has authored numerous plays—several of which refer to the incarceration—of which <i>Behind Enemy Lines</i> was her first.
