The play was written by Soji Kashiwagi and produced by the Grateful Crane ensemble in 2003. Grants from the <a href=\"/wiki/California_Civil_Liberties_Public_Education_Program\" title=\"California Civil Liberties Public Education Program\">California Civil Liberties Public Education Program</a> supported performances of <i>The Camp Dance</i> in eight California cities in 2004, as well as the production of a soundtrack CD. As part of the show, the cast performs a variety of popular songs from the period. In some shows, <a href=\"/wiki/Mary_Nomura\" title=\"Mary Nomura\">Mary Nomura</a>, a popular <a href=\"/wiki/Nisei\" title=\"Nisei\">Nisei</a> singer known as the \"Songbird of Manzanar\" has performed with the cast. Since its inception, <i>The Camp Dance</i> in its original two-hour version and a fifty-minute version has been performed at a variety of venues and events in California and the West including the 2006 <a href=\"/wiki/Japanese_American_Citizens_League\" title=\"Japanese American Citizens League\">Japanese American Citizens League</a> national convention in Phoenix, Arizona; the 2008 dinner of the National Japanese American Memorial Foundation in Washington, DC; and the 2010 Minidoka Civil Rights Symposium as part of the Minidoka Pilgrimage.\n</p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Performance_History\">Performance History</span></h2>\n<table class=\"wikitable\">\n<caption>Full Version\n</caption>\n<tr>\n<td>Venice Japanese American Community Center (Venice, CA)\n</td>\n<td>December 2003\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Orange County Buddhist Church (Anaheim, CA)\n</td>\n<td>December 2003\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Armstrong Theater (Torrance, CA)\n</td>\n<td>February, 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Fresno Buddhist Church\t(Fresno, CA)\n</td>\n<td>March 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Clovis Japanese Christian Church (Clovis, CA)\n</td>\n<td>March 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Church (Los Angeles,CA)\n</td>\n<td>April 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Buddhist Church of San Francisco (San Francisco, CA)\n</td>\n<td>June 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>San Jose Buddhist Church (San Jose, CA)\n</td>\n<td>June 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Sacramento Buddhist Church (Sacramento, CA)\n</td>\n<td>June 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Stockton Buddhist Church (Stockton, CA)\n</td>\n<td>June 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>East West Players (Los Angeles, CA)\n</td>\n<td>July 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Northwest Asian American Theater (Seattle, WA)\n</td>\n<td>September 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Culver City High School, Venice Buddhist Church (Venice, CA)\n</td>\n<td>October 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Manzanar National Historic Site\n</td>\n<td>October 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Pasadena Buddhist Church (Pasadena, CA)\n</td>\n<td>October 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Sacramento Buddhist Church (Sacramento, CA)\n</td>\n<td>November 2004\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Aratani Japan America Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)\n</td>\n<td>March 2005\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Henry J.
