A teacher's guide and bibliography to accompany the piece are available through the Living Voices website.\n</p><p><i>Within the Silence</i> is told in the first person voice of Emiko Yamada, a teenage <a href=\"/wiki/Nisei\" title=\"Nisei\">Nisei</a> girl growing up in Seattle's Japantown when the war breaks out. Her father, who operated a grocery store and was also a Japanese language school principal, is arrested and interned, while the rest of the family has to dispose of their belongings before being taken to <a href=\"/wiki/Puyallup_(detention_facility)\" title=\"Puyallup (detention facility)\">Puyallup Assembly Center</a> and <a href=\"/wiki/Minidoka\" title=\"Minidoka\">Minidoka</a>. At Minidoka, Emiko's two older brothers take opposite sides in the <a href=\"/wiki/Loyalty_questionnaire\" title=\"Loyalty questionnaire\">loyalty questionnaire</a> drama, with one volunteering for the <a href=\"/wiki/442nd_Regimental_Combat_Team\" title=\"442nd Regimental Combat Team\">442nd Regimental Combat Team</a> and the other becoming a <a href=\"/wiki/No-no_boys\" title=\"No-no boys\">no-no boy</a>. The family returns to Seattle after the war, and Emiko becomes a teacher. Her story is augmented by archival photographs and footage.\n</p>\n<div id=\"authorByline\"><b>Authored by <a href=\"/wiki/Brian_Niiya\" title=\"Brian Niiya\">Brian Niiya</a>, Densho</b></div>\n<div id=\"citationAuthor\" style=\"display:none;\">Niiya, Brian</div>\n<div id=\"RelatedArticlesDisplay\">\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Related_Articles\">Related Articles</span></h2>\n<p>\n</p>\n<div id=\"RelatedArticlesSectionDisplay\">\n<h3><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"\"></span></h3>\n<p>\n</p>\n<ul><li> <a href=\"/wiki/Plays_on_incarceration\" title=\"Plays on incarceration\">Plays on incarceration</a></li></ul>\n</div>\n</div>\n<br/>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"For_More_Information\">For More Information</span></h2>\n<p>\"<a class=\"external text\" href=\"http://www.tolerance.org/magazine/number-30-fall-2006/feature/we-were-still-enemy\" rel=\"nofollow\">We Were Still the Enemy</a>.\" <i>Teaching Tolerance</i> 30 (Fall 2006).\n</p><p>\"<a class=\"external text\" href=\"http://www.livingvoices.org/wts/wts.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">Within the Silence</a>,\" at the Living Voices website.\n</p>\n<!-- \nNewPP limit report\nCPU time usage: 0.064 seconds\nReal time usage: 0.067 seconds\nPreprocessor visited node count: 242/1000000\nPreprocessor generated node count: 1693/1000000\nPost‚Äźexpand include size: 2971/2097152 bytes\nTemplate argument size: 257/2097152 bytes\nHighest expansion depth: 4/40\nExpensive parser function count: 0/100\nExtLoops count: 0/100\n-->\n<!-- Saved in parser cache with key mediawiki:pcache:idhash:2555-0!*!0!!*!*!* and timestamp 20170310154317 and revision id 23791\n -->\n<div class=\"toplink\"><a href=\"#top\"><i class=\"icon-chevron-up\"></i> Top</a></div></body></html>",
