He graduated from Hollywood High School. He studied architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, for two years. Following an invitation to a party hosted by actor Sessue Hayakawa, he was offered a job at Metro Studios in the film industry. He initially worked as a draftsman in the art department before he was promoted to art director in 1929 and began handling pictures.\n </p>\n <p>\n Initially, when\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/Executive_Order_9066/\" title=\"Executive Order 9066\">\n Executive Order 9066\n </a>\n was signed, initiating the forced removal of all Japanese Americans off of the West Coast, MGM studio offered Imazu accommodations within the studio in order to retain him as their art director.\n <sup class=\"reference\" id=\"cite_ref-1\">\n <a class=\"\" href=\"#cite_note-1\">\n [1]\n </a>\n </sup>\n However, Imazu and his wife Aiko (herself a Los Angeles native and accomplished artist) decided against separating the family and were incarcerated at\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/Santa_Anita_(detention_facility)/\" title=\"Santa Anita (detention facility)\">\n Santa Anita Assembly Center\n </a>\n and in the\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/Jerome/\" title=\"Jerome\">\n Jerome\n </a>\n and\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/Rohwer/\" title=\"Rohwer\">\n Rohwer\n </a>\n , Arkansas, camps. The couple had one daughter born before the war, and a second was born at Jerome.\n <sup class=\"reference\" id=\"cite_ref-2\">\n <a class=\"\" href=\"#cite_note-2\">\n [2]\n </a>\n </sup>\n The family moved to Rohwer in June 1944 after the closing of Jerome. They left Rohwer to return to Los Angeles in July 1945.\n <sup class=\"reference\" id=\"cite_ref-3\">\n <a class=\"\" href=\"#cite_note-3\">\n [3]\n </a>\n </sup>\n </p>\n <p>\n Following his release, he returned to Culver City, California, where he was immediately offered his former job and continued working for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Film Studio for 35 years as an art director on Hollywood films, including\n <i>\n Go For Broke\n </i>\n (1951), a dramatic feature exploring the story of the 442nd/100th Battalion.\n </p>\n <p>\n In 1936, Eddie Imazu was an Academy Award co-nominee for Best Art Direction on\n <i>\n The Great Ziegfeld\n </i>\n . Imazu's film credits include\n <i>\n The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance\n </i>\n (1962);\n <i>\n The Teahouse of the August Moon\n </i>\n (1956);\n <i>\n Go For Broke!\n </i>\n (1951); and\n <i>\n Three Wise Fools\n </i>\n (1946).
