Even with its small size, the fair and livestock show were popular enough that construction on a permanent home in its current location began just two years later. By 1957, the regional fair began to host a recurring \"show and tell\" exhibit, featuring primarily artifacts contributed by local elementary school students. The Fair Board encouraged the student's enthusiasm and created a \"museum\" in the livestock sale barn, which housed the unique local exhibits for decades.\n </p>\n <p>\n In a new strategic plan devised by the Fair Board in 1999, developers recognized the need for a more accessible and professional home for the collection, which had become one of the more popular pieces of the annual fair. At this point it was decided that the museum and the fair offices would merge to allow shared staff and resources for the limited budget of the local fair. In 2001, the museum received funding from the fair budget as well as a $26,000\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/California_Civil_Liberties_Public_Education_Program/\" title=\"California Civil Liberties Public Education Program\">\n California Civil Liberties Public Education Program\n </a>\n Grant, with the understanding that the new museum would forward the preservation and expansion of exhibits related to the nearby Tule Lake detention center. In support of this project, half of an original Tule Lake barrack and guard tower was moved to the site and restored. Today several interpretive displays inside the museum present the history of the camp, while a 3-D mural gives visitors the impression that they are looking down on the camp to grasp its size, desolation, and dull appearance. Visitors can also listen to an audio guide of the museum, which includes personal accounts from former detainees Jimi and Eiko Yamaichi.\n </p>\n <p>\n In addition to the Tule Lake camp exhibit, visitors to the museum can view several murals of the natural landscape surrounding the Klamath region, Modoc Indian artifacts, local homesteading history, and regional historical photographs and memorabilia.\n </p>\n <div id=\"authorByline\">\n <b>\n Authored by\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/Abbie_Salyers_Grubb/\" title=\"Abbie Salyers Grubb\">\n Abbie Salyers Grubb\n </a>\n </b>\n </div>\n <div id=\"citationAuthor\" style=\"display:none;\">\n Grubb, Abbie\n </div>\n <div id=\"RelatedArticlesDisplay\">\n <div class=\"section\" id=\"Related_Articles\">\n <h2>\n <span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Related_Articles\">\n Related Articles\n </span>\n </h2>\n <div class=\"section_content\">\n <p class=\"mw-empty-elt\">\n </p>\n <div id=\"RelatedArticlesSectionDisplay\">\n <div class=\"section\" id=\"\">\n <h3>\n <span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"\">\n </span>\n </h3>\n <div class=\"section_content\">\n <p class=\"mw-empty-elt\">\n </p>\n <ul>\n <li>\n <a class=\"encyc notrg\" href=\"/Museum_exhibitions_on_incarceration/\" title=\"Museum exhibitions on incarceration\">\n Museum exhibitions on incarceration\n </a>\n </li>\n </ul>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n </div>\n <div class=\"section\" id=\"For_More_Information\">\n <h2>\n <span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"For_More_Information\">\n For More Information\n </span>\n </h2>\n <div class=\"section_content\">\n <p>\n Tule Lake-Butte Valley Fairground and Museum Website,\n <a class=\"external free offsite\" href=\";giftshop.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">\n;giftshop.html\n </a>\n </p>\n <!-- \nNewPP limit report\nCached time: 20230613175600\nCache expiry: 86400\nDynamic content: false\nComplications: []\nCPU time usage: 0.007 seconds\nReal time usage: 0.009 seconds\nPreprocessor visited node count: 56/1000000\nPost‐expand include size: 1254/2097152 bytes\nTemplate argument size: 58/2097152 bytes\nHighest expansion depth: 6/40\nExpensive parser function count: 0/100\nUnstrip recursion depth: 0/20\nUnstrip post‐expand size: 0/5000000 bytes\nExtLoops count: 0\n-->\n <!--\nTransclusion expansion time report (%,ms,calls,template)\n100.00% 5.585 1 -total\n 49.38% 2.758 1 Template:RelatedArticles\n 24.62% 1.375 1 Template:RelatedArticlesSection\n 24.62% 1.375 1 Template:AuthorByline\n 24.50% 1.368 1 Template:Published\n-->\n <!-- Saved in parser cache with key encycmw:pcache:idhash:3131-0!canonical and timestamp 20230613175600 and revision id 21524\n -->\n </div>\n </div>\n</div>\n<div class=\"toplink\">\n <a href=\"#top\">\n <i class=\"icon-chevron-up\">\n </i>\n Top\n </a>\n</div>",
