Michelle M. Okawa is a Yonsei born and raised in Los Angeles, specifically the San Gabriel Valley. She is currently a PhD student in History at the University of California, Riverside with an emphasis on Asian American History and Public History. Her research examines Japanese American public memory, including how the incarceration experience continues to be remembered today. Michelle is an active member of the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center (ESGVJCC) and prior to graduate school, she taught Ethnic Studies on college campuses.
