Tracy Slater is an American writer based in her husband's country of Japan. She received her Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Brandeis University and taught for over ten years at numerous Boston-area universities, as well as in men's and women's prisons throughout Massachusetts. She has written for the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and Time Magazine's Made by History, among other places. Her most recent book is the narrative nonfiction work Together in Manzanar: The True Story of a Japanese Jewish Family in an American Concentration Camp, which was published in 2025 by Chicago Review Press.
