TT Takemoto is a queer Japanese American artist and scholar exploring Asian American history, sexuality, and identity. Their work delves into hidden dimensions of same-sex intimacy and trauma within archives by manipulating film emulsion to conjure immersive queer fantasies. Takemoto’s work has been exhibited at the Gwangju Biennale, Documenta 15, the Asian Art Museum, and SFMOMA, and solo exhibition at the Cantor Arts Center in 2024-25. A recipient of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Experimental Film at the Slamdance Film Festival, Takemoto has received grants from Art Matters and the San Francisco Arts Commission. Their writings appear in Art Journal, GLQ, Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures and the Americas, and the anthology Queering Asian American Art. For over two decades, Takemoto has taught at California College of the Arts, where they have served as interim provost and professor. They live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area.
